AN eight-player Philippine Basketball Association team, PBA Legends, played local teams in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane under national coach Derrick Pumaren.
At the Whitlam Centre in Liverpool, south-west Sydney, the Legends played an exhibition game against the Australian Chinese Basketball Association.
The team comprised some of Philippine basketball’s crème de la crème: players Marlou ‘Skyscraper’ Aquino, Allan ‘Triggerman’ Caidac, Atoy ‘Fortune Cookie’ Co, Kenneth ‘Captain Barbel’ Duremdes, Alvin ‘The Captain’ Patrimonio, Nelson ‘The Bull’ Asaytono, Johnny ‘Flying Ar’ Abarrientos, and Dindo ‘The Bullet’ Pumaren, and coach Derrick Pumaren.
In preliminary games, Crispa-Rockdale played Pure Foods-Miller, UE-Filopages-played La Salle Amigos, and Barangay Ginebra Kings Jayhawk played San Miguel Beer Merque.
The Canberra Filcom Tamaraws played Sydney Amigos in a NSW State champion team open division game.
Crispa-Rockdale was coached by Atoy Co, Pure Foods-Miller by Alvin Patrimonio, Ginebra Kings Jayhawk by Johnny Abarrientos, SanMiguel Beer Merque by Allan Caidic, Eu-Filopages by DerrickPumaren, La Salle-Amigos by Dindo Pumaren.
