AUSTRALIAN light-welterweight boxing champion and Filipino import Jack ‘The Assassin’ Asis scored a unanimous decision over Indonesia’s Rivo Rengkung in Townsville to stretch his winning record in Australia to seven straight victories.
Asis was fighting in the undercard of the abbreviated title bout between Australia’s reigning WBF world middleweight and WBO Asia Pacific champion Les Sherrington and Argentina’s Esteban Ponce.
“I was really impressed with the level of the fight and the way Jack controlled it against a very tough and dangerous opponent,” said trainer Brendon Smith.
Asis had come into the fight after six straight wins including knockouts over America’s Nestor Rocha and Japan’s Ryeusi Yoshida as well as a decision over the previously undefeated Maxsaisai Sithsaithong of Indonesia.
“I’m very happy,” said Asis after his fight.
