BANKSTOWN Lions soccer club’s under-12s shut out Northern Tigers, 2-0, sparked by pinoz Bailey Pimentel, who scored both goals, on Saturday, May 18, 2013.
The young striker from Menai booted his fourth and fifth goals of the season at Christies Oval, Macquarie Park, to further reward the Lion’s selectors after 11 games.
His first goal was a through-ball, outrunning opposition fullbacks and beating the goalkeeper with a shot to the top-right corner of the net.
Bailey’s second goal was a Lionel Messi-like solo burst in the middle of the pack and striking the ball low, hard and straight past the ’keeper.
The young Lions went down to Hills Brumbies, 4-1, on Saturday, May 11, at the team’s home-ground of Jenssen Park, Regents Park. Bailey played the first half and came off in the second half.
He was back in the field with five minutes to play and promptly made one of the team’s most promising solo drives at goal, but his lob floated across the goal posts and off the left as the final whistle blew.
Bankstown Lions’ under-12s play in the representative Premier 2 division, the second tier of the NSW Men’s State League. Premier 1 is the top division comprising the league’s big soccer clubs.
Bailey started playing soccer at six years of age. He turned briefly to rugby league before returning to play soccer, now his favourite game.
