FAIRFIELD NSW, the football nursery that produced some of the world’s best soccer stars like Liverpool FC’s Harry Kewell in the UK and Italian club stars Christian and Max Vieri will be the scene of the first soccer trials to launch the Azkalroos Football Pathway Academy next month in a hunt for pinoz soccer talent across Australia.
The trials take place at the Fairfield Showground during the 2013 Filipino Fiesta Kultura on Monday, October 7, according to Azkalroos spokesman Andrew Fletcher.
”Azkalroos will search for and develop soccer talent to provide players not only for the Philippines’ Azkals national teams and the professional United Football League the Philippines but also for Australia’s top sides,” Fletcher said.
Already, the fledgling academy based in Fairfield has produced John Kanayama as the first pinoz to trial and make the Azkals Under-19 football team in the Philippines.
Other Sydney-based and more seasoned stars Aly Borromeo, Leigh Gun, and Mike Moran have joined Azkalroos as players and mentors.
Borromeo, co-captain of the Philippine’s national team Azkals, will be involved in Azkalroos’ coaching program. Following surgery recently, he is completing a personal training course at the Australian Institute of Fitness.
Sydney-born Leigh Gunn has played for the Azkals and has returned to Sydney where is a player and coach.
Mike Moran was another former star of the Azkals and is now based in Sydney. He will be part of the Azkalroos’ training and coaching programs.
These three will spearhead the trials at the Fairfield Showground on October 7, when they will conduct football drills and ”fun games” for players of all ages.
