REY Calixto ”check-mated” Rodolfo Cristobal to win the chess tournament of the 38th National Australian Filipino Sports Association (NASA) in the chess room of Kevin Betts Stadium, Mount Druitt, on the Easter weekend of April 18-20.
Sydney Amigos edged Melbourne Integrated Sports Club, 62-69, in the basketball final at Kevin Betts Basketball Stadium.
In the golf section, also named the First Global Asean Golf Challenge, overall champion as Neil Narvaiz of Pogi Golf Club. Men’s division 1 winner was Ross Sandoval of Pogi Golf Club, with Renz Miclat runner-up. Men’s division 2 winner was Keith Sta Barbara of Pogi Golf Club, with Boy Sanding runner-up. The ladies division winner was Laura Marquinez of PASC Golf Sydney Eagles, with Kathy Wagner runner-up.
Winner of the tennis section was the team Patas Sydney, with Patab Brisbane runner-up.
The Philippine Australian Sports and Culture (PASC) organisation played host to this year’s NASA goodwill games. Immediately after the games, PASC president Manny Castillo announced that the 39th NASA Games will be held in Manila.
“The Games are scheduled to return to Australia in 2916 to celebrate the 40th anniversary, Castillo said.
“Filipino teams from the United States, Canada, New Zealand, Europe, South America and Middle East will be invited.”
