THE pinoz-studded Philippine Tamaraws’ first grade and junior rugby league teams take on international sides in Sydney on Saturday, October 4, 2014.
In the main event, Tams’ big boys lock horns with Hiue’s tough national side in a Test match at Wentworthville Leagues Club Oval, following a curtain-raiser between Tamaraws’ under-23s and Thailand Stars.
Philippine National Rugby League is calling on the Filipino community in NSW to support the Tamaraws by coming to watch the games.
Tamaraws spokesman Mark de Ubago said the local Filipino community will also use the event to promote their projects and organisations on the day including businesses catering food with free stalls and no fund contributions.
For families with children interested in getting them playing the game of rugby league, there will be an OZ Tag competition with free entry.
Program for the day will include cultural dancers of different heritages.
The organisers are also looking for people who may wish to run face painting and jumping castles at no cost to them.
For details, contact Mark De Ubago on 0407 461 168 or email mark.deubago@gmail.com.
The 2011 Census showed that 70,388 people of Filipino-heritage lived in NSW, with 25,899 living in the Blacktown local government area; 4,350 in the Penrith area and 3,419 in Parramatta.
“So there are a lot of Filipinos living near Wentworthville Leagues Club, and your National Rugby League team, the Tamaraws, needs your support to win these international games,” de Ubago said.
