BLUE Sox baseball club member Don Giron had never believed he’d watch Major League Baseball’s World Series in person. Not in his wildest dreams.
But it happened.
In October, Giron won a VIP trip from his club to watch 2015 World Series games 3, 4 and 5 in New York City.
He took eight-year-old daughter Isla with him
Though a fan of the New York Yankees, who were eliminated from contention, Giron had hoped the Chicago Cubs would make it to the World Series because of the team’s underdog storyline.
But the Cubs were dismissed by New York Mets in the National League championship.
Kansas City Royals won the American League championshipby beating Toronto Blue Jays to set the World Series match-up against the Mets.
Again, sad for Don and Isla their World Series favourite Mets gave away the title to the Royals, 4 games to 1.
A life-long sports fan and Western Sydney resident, Giron said he became interested in baseball about five years ago. He now follows the Australian Baseball League, in particular his favourite player and Korean star Dae Sung Koo.
Isla’s favourite player is Blue Sox infielder Jacob Younis.
Giron’s two children play tee-ball with the Baulkham Hills Baseball Club.
He plans to watch the World Baseball Classic Qualifier in February 2016 at Blacktown’s Blue Sox Stadium to cheer on both Team Australia and the Philippines’ national baseball team that’s coming to take part.
