PINOZ Jason Day relinquished golf’s world No 1 ranking – just short of one year at the top – to America’s Dustin Johnson at the 2017 Genesis Open in California in February 2017.
Day’s grip on the top spot had been slipping going in to the Genesis Open because he has battled injuries which forced the Queenslanderto end his 2016 early.
In his four tournaments this year, Day finished 12th, 5th – and 65th in California, after four rounds shooting in the 70s.
He also missed the cut at the Farmers Insurance Open in January.
Day became only the second Australian to take to the world No 1 ranking since Greg Norman on the back of a stunning 2015 in which he won four times, including his first major, the US PGA championshiP.

Day revealed that his mother Dening was diagnosed with cancer after withdrawing from the Dell Technologies Match Play in Austin, Texas, recently.
He said on the news that the initial diagnosis came in Australia at the beginning of this year and that she had scheduled surgery in Columbus, Ohio.
“My mom told me not to worry about it,” Day said. “It’s hard to do that. It’s easy to say … but it’s really, really difficult.
“So currently I’m scheduled to play Augusta … but if things don’t come back the way we want them, I don’t know what’s going to happen.”
