THE Philippines’ national soccer champion Kaya Football Club-Iloilo will be in Sydney next week for an Asian Football Cup (AFC) Champions League qualifier against the Sydney Football Club ‘Sky Blues’.
It will be a one-off match to keep its hope alive in the League’s preliminary round group stage place.
The game will be played at Netstrata Jubilee Stadium in Kogarah NSW on Wednesday, March 8, 2022.
After a four-month wait, Kaya FC’s football calendar is set to kick off with a bang.
Coming off a historic year that featured the Filipino club’s breakthrough into the top flight of Asian football, the 2022 campaign begins with an away fixture in Australia.
For the second season in a row, the Club’s continental hopes come down to a single match to determine whether it will play in the League’s Group H in April or with the Group G later in June 2022.
The boys certainly rose to the occasion last year, celebrating the club’s 25th anniversary by toppling China’s Shanghai Port FC and gate-crashing the prestigious competition.
From repurposed basketball courts in the 1990s to the world-class pitches of today, Kaya FC’s spirit as a club remains solid no matter where they play.
The club’s namesake, Káya, is Pilipino for the English words ‘Can do’.
